MID SEMESTER BREAK

This week I started to draw some inspiration from the tent city that is created during the festival. The beauty of a tent or similar structure is it is lightweight and mobile however it does not provide permanence and is not a comfortable long-term solution.

WEEK 09 - UNDERSTANDING SCALE

Illustrations from the METRIC HANDBOOK PLANNING AND DESIGN DATA. I found this useful to understand the spatial requirements for my sleeping pods as I am trying to make them as small as possible while making them feel quite large.

WEEK 08 - ALTERNATE LAYOUT IDEAS

The main issue I am trying to resolve in relation to the spatial configuration of the design is whether or not the sleeping pods require their own toilet and bathroom, I feel that if I do this I will lose some of the credibility of challenging the line between public and private space and will have failed in trying to achieve a smaller percentage of constructed space for the number of people.

WEEK 08 - SPACE TYPES

Above are some of the key words I would use to describe the site and as a result key workds that I would like to be the motivation behind my proposed design.

Above a bubble diagram of the space I believe will be required within the main building of the proposal.

Some spacial planning for the main building with the rooms (sleeping pods) to the north surrounding the community building.

A site elevation showing the sleeping pods and the main building tucked away in vegitation. I would like the design to be something like a tree house.

WEEK 07 - FEEDBACK

Main points of interest are to establish with the 100 residence, who what when and why. We have agreed that the scenario would not work without permanent inhabitants that can guide the visitors in the day to day task that are involved with living in such a cooperative community. Possibly a 50/50 split between visitors and permanent residence.

Sleeping Pods to surround a common shared zone, which will be made up of all the living spaces.

WEEK 07 - PROJECT DIRECTION

The Project

Woodfordia becomes an educational facility used to introduce people to more sustainable ways of living by doing rather than saying.

Incorporates existing events such as tree planting and the Woodford Folk Festival.

Design

The Objective is to challenge societies current perspective of living with a focus on community living and shared space.

The building should challenge the boundaries of private versus public space.

The building is to house 100 people with the ability for future expansion or modullization

People will live at Woodfordia on a short term basis to get an appreciation for a more sustainable way of living

Cost of accommodation possibly paid through the contribution you make through working

Building will be programmed to be used as accommodation for Woodford Folk Festival
